Synergy Blog - a new beginning
Dear Network,
Dear readers,
It is with great pleasure that Synergy, the Blog of ELSA, officially begins its journey. It is a privilege to be part of this association, first and foremost; it is a wonderful opportunity to (re-)launch Synergy Blog and, finally and most importantly, it is lovely to be part of such an amazing team. ELSA, the blog and all the ideas that follow are created by and for its people in this case, for you, our readers.
My name is Francisco and I am the Director for the Synergy Blog for the 2025/2026 term. I am currently pursuing my LL.M. in European Law in Leiden University. I received an LL.B in Porto, Portugal, and I am finalizing my Postgraduation in Children Rights, Family and Inheritance Law at the University of Lisbon and Research Center for Private Law.
For a long time now, Synergy has been lying between its life and death: forgotten, frozen with the same ideas, and losing its readers. However, last year that time has finally come to an end. A new Synergy emerges with new ideas and, hopefully, with more readers and writers. This first (official) post serves as an incentive for you as well, dear reader; you who, for the simple reason of being our reader, can also be our writer. We warmly and strongly encourage you to submit your articles that are relevant to the visions and meaning of ELSA (and for that, you just have to go to our Instagram link and submit your personal article). For the ones who are not familiar with ELSA values, here is a quote that serves as a reminder (and, hopefully, as an inspiration as well): A just world in which there is respect for human dignity and cultural diversity.
‘All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights,’ as set by Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These rights protected by institutions should be practical and effective, not void and abstract. Moreover, these protections should not only be promoted by entities such as the UN and other international or regional organizations, but by every one of us. As the Secretary-General of the UN, António Guterres, said, “[I]n the end, it comes down to values. We want the world our children inherit to be defined by the values enshrined in the UN Charter: peace, justice, respect, human rights, tolerance, and solidarity.” It is exactly here where we, students of law, should start; here where we should fight and defend our rights. Never forget: the protection of human rights and rule of law must first be upheld in universities and schools, before they are undermined by authoritarianism and chaos.
I wish you good reading this year. Hopefully, with us too.
Director for Synergy Blog (2025/2026)
Hi everyone! It’s so lovely to be part of the 2025-2026 Synergy Blog Team as one of the Editors, and I hope each of you will enjoy reading each article almost as much as we will enjoy collating everything for you!
My name is Ana, I am currently studying for my LLM at UCL in London, however I’m originally Romanian and have hopped from place to place my entire life. Being based in London means I am also collaborating with ELSA UK as their Director for Data Protection this year, therefore I’m looking forward to the opportunity to create deeper connections between the National and International Team members. Ultimately, these connections form part of the core values of the Synergy Blog; we will aim that each article is crafted with the intention of dispersing knowledge and valuable perspectives, for the purpose of furthering international collaboration and strengthening legal education. Each one of you has the ability to contribute to the value of Synergy, whether that means sharing your experiences in ELSA, or educating the community on a topic you’re finding extremely interesting at the moment! We look forward to receiving your stories and sharing them onwards.

Editor for Synergy Blog (2025/2026)
Hello everyone! I’m Anna Maria Loizou, and I have the great pleasure of serving as an Editor for the Synergy Blog Team for the 2025/2026 term. I can’t wait to embark on this creative journey with my team and to contribute meaningfully in fostering vibrant legal dialogues on the dynamic platform that is Synergy.
I’m a fourth-year undergraduate law student at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and currently have the honor of serving as an Academic Editor in the sector of Theory and Philosophy of Law of De Jure Journal, a student-edited, peer-reviewed law journal under the auspices of ELSA Athens. Law and Journalism have always been for me two engrossing fields that captivate me, and I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity to explore productively and weave together the intersections of these vast worlds.
Beyond sharing news about the ELSA network, one of our objectives this year is to amplify the interactive character of the Synergy Blog as an international platform, cultivating engaging legal discussions, and promoting a broad variety of novel perspectives on current legal issues. We aim to achieve this by encouraging you, the members of this lively legal community, to submit your articles on contemporary legal and judicial matters of your interest. We look forward to reading your personal insights!
