Meet the team: The Synergy Blog’s mission to inspire, connect, and share
The desire to share knowledge is intrinsic in human nature. Dispersing information with the intention of teaching, sharing experiences and inspiring others allows us to cultivate a community by relating to one another. Withstanding the test of the time, the optimal vessel to share such knowledge has proven to be writing. The Synergy Blog captures this sentiment and is a platform we can use to allow our ELSA community to thrive.
Despite what many may think, to write an article worthy of publication, you needn’t be a master of linguistics or have perfectly crafted sentences. To submit articles to Synergy, you simply need not to be an expert. You just need to have enough courage to say, write and show. We, the Synergy Blog Team, will always be here to help you find your path to writing your article.
Does this resonate with you? Journalism encompasses various skills, including research and ethical responsibility, yet it begins with courageous first steps: observing, expressing, and sharing. With this courage, everyone can take the first step toward writing like a journalist. As Gwen Ifill once said, “Journalism should reflect the diversity of the communities it serves.” This idea is at the core of the Synergy Blog and ELSA: sharing experiences spanning 43 countries whilst celebrating our similarities and differences.
Why the Synergy Blog?
Here at the Synergy Blog, we support your willingness to share your ideas, experiences and thoughts on ELSA events, as well as local, international, and external cooperations. Since its inception in 1987, Synergy has preserved the legacy of events and inspired the network by promoting them and fostering new ideas. By documenting happenings, it fosters the creation of new ideas. As the Synergy Blog Team, we aim to continue this and breathe new life into the platform. By contributing to the Blog through article submissions, you can help us achieve these goals!
Behind the Blog: Who are we?
To continue developing the Synergy Blog, the Team has recently expanded to include two new Assistants/Editors. Allow us to introduce ourselves:
Hi everyone! I’m Kat Bonello, and I’m excited to introduce myself as one of the newest members of the Synergy Team! Together with my colleague, Ferman, I’ve joined as an Assistant and Editor.
A little bit about me: I’m a 20-year-old from Malta, currently in my third year of pursuing a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree. Beyond my studies, I also serve as an Assistant for Public Relations with the ELSA International Team and have been actively involved with ELSA for the past three years.
I feel incredibly fortunate to take on this role within the Synergy Team since the blog is one of ELSA’s most dynamic and inspiring platforms, and I’m thrilled to contribute to its ongoing growth. Since starting, I’ve been coordinating article submissions, connecting with potential contributors, and proofreading content, among other tasks. My main focus this term is to enhance awareness, visibility, and readability. I’m committed to helping it thrive as a vital platform for sharing knowledge across our network and fostering a true sense of community among ELSA Members. It’s been such a rewarding experience so far, and I’m looking forward to what the rest of the term will bring!
Hey everyone! I’m Ferman Kangöz, also anAssistant/Editor for the 2024/2025 term at the ELSA Synergy Blog. Currently, I am living in İzmir, Türkiye, and I have got some exciting news. By the end of this term, I will be graduating with my Bachelor of Laws degree!
This is my first position in the ELSA International Team, and I have to say, I absolutely love being part of the EIT. As my colleague, Kat, mentioned above, in this role we have some specific responsibilities. Proofreading, reaching out to contributors, coordinating, etc. I would like to remind you that we were chosen to help and guide you in your contributions to the Synergy blog, so please, do not hesitate to reach out to us!
The past two months have been incredible and we’ve accomplished so much inspiring work, I hope we can continue to make greater contributions to the ELSA Network!
What is our role as the Assistants of the Synergy Blog?
As Assistants and Editors of the Synergy Blog, our primary responsibility is to support and guide contributors in sharing their ideas and insights with the ELSA Network. It involves a range of tasks, including proofreading, editing, generating article concepts, managing submissions, supporting marketing initiatives, and addressing any challenges that arise throughout the process.
Our workflow follows a structured timeline to maintain efficiency and consistency. We start by identifying noteworthy ELSA events and inviting participants or organisers to share their perspectives. Then, we guide potential authors through the writing process. Their submissions are then reviewed and refined through a thorough editorial process before being finalized for publication. After publication, we evaluate its impact on the ELSA Network and actively seek opportunities to highlight events that inspire engagement and foster a stronger sense of the ELSA community.
The Synergy Blog unites the ELSA community by sharing knowledge, celebrating diversity, and inspiring innovation. With guidance from our team, everyone is encouraged to share their stories and ideas.
Join us in continuing Synergy’s legacy of fostering creativity and connection - your voice matters!
