ELSA Spain hosts an intergenerational event celebrating the Legacy of the ELSA Spain community

On 14 June 2025, ELSA Spain hosted a memorable intergenerational event that brought together past and present members of ELSA Spain and ELSA Spain Alumni. The event, which took place at the IE University, was an emotional and reflective experience, as it showcased the enduring strength and legacy of the ELSA community.

The event was marked by the participation of Vice Presidents from 1995, who shared their experiences and reflections on the evolution of ELSA Spain over the years. As they spoke, it became clear that many of the challenges faced in the past, such as strengthening the network and promoting legal education, are still relevant today. This connection between past and present ELSA members was a powerful reminder of the enduring commitment to advancing legal knowledge and human rights.

One of the highlights of the evening was the discussion on the changes in communication since the early days of ELSA. In 1995, the world was without social media, instant messaging, and smartphones. Back then, communication was limited to phone calls or even searching newspapers for the phone numbers of local and national groups, which made international collaboration more challenging. Fast forward to today, and we're just one click away from connecting with colleagues across Europe and beyond, thanks to the digital tools we now use in our everyday lives. This contrast sparked insightful conversations about how technology has transformed the way we work and collaborate.

The event was not only a reflection on the past but also a celebration of the present and future of ELSA Spain. It was a moment to reaffirm the values that bind the ELSA community together, including a passion for legal education, international collaboration, and the promotion of human rights. The morning concluded with a networking session, where old friends and new connections shared ideas and built relationships, continuing the spirit of ELSA.

As ELSA Spain looks to the future, the event was a reminder of the vibrant and supportive network that exists within the ELSA community. The challenges of today will become the triumphs of tomorrow, and we are all part of a collective journey to ensure that future generations of legal professionals continue to uphold the ideals of justice, equality and human rights.
